Council of Elders

The following is for information only. The Council of Elders as a group is effectively inactive, as only a minority are active in Church affairs. Provided an oncorporated organization is formed to promote Apathetic Agnosticism it may choose to activate this council for its own guidance from amongst its qualified members..

Composition

All Matriarchs and Patriarchs are ex officio members of the Council of Elders. The Council, by majority vote, may invite other Church members and clergy to join for a fixed or indefinite term, provided such additional members make up 1/3 or less of the total Council membership.

Role

The Council of Elders is the senior advisory and consultative committee within the Church. Its responsibilities are:

  • to provide advice and guidance to the Patriarch of the Church;
  • to discuss, debate and recommend appropriate policies for the Church;
  • to identify and recommend worthy Bishops for elevation;
  • to elect a new Patriarch / Matriarch of the Church should the positon become vacant without a designated successor;
  • such other duties and tasks as the Patriarch of the Church may from time to time assign.
